West Ham manager David Moyes has struck a note of caution about deciding to select some of the club’s younger players against Arsenal this weekend.

The fixture is sandwiched between the two legs of the Europa League semi-final versus Eintracht Frankfurt and, with Craig Dawson also suspended for the Gunners match, Moyes was asked about possibly giving youth a chance. The Hammers boss has said he will need to strike a balance to make sure he fields a competitive team:

“I think when it’s the games like Arsenal and the level of those players, I think you need to be careful when you put young players in. You need to make sure you help your senior players as well and that they’ve got enough belief to rely on the players around them.”

It will be interesting to see what Moyes decides to do. In terms of the Premier League, West Ham’s chances of finishing in the top four are gone so there really isn’t anything to play for. It would be regrettable if anyone gets injured ahead of the game in Germany next week.

West Ham’s Under 23s are set to finish second in Premier League 2 this campaign, so there is merit to giving one or two their chance to impress. We shall find out on Sunday who gets the nod.
