West Ham have “cooled” their interest in Everton left-back Lucas Digne, according to the Liverpool Echo‘s Toffees correspondent Phil Kirkbride.
The Hammers were named among the clubs interested in the French international but the journalist says they are no longer considered frontrunners for the defender’s signature.
Another source had recently suggested that Digne’s £100,000 a week wages could prove to be a stumbling block and that seems to be the most likely explanation as to why David Moyes’ side have pulled out.
Kirkbride claims Digne is not keen on a move to Newcastle, while Chelsea are currently considering alternative targets. The Frenchman’s other main suitors are believed to be Aston Villa and Real Madrid.
It is almost certain that West Ham will move on to other options with it being reported that Aaron Cresswell’s back injury is worse than first feared. At the moment, it is not known who the Irons will pursue instead of Digne.
