West Ham failed in a late bid to snap up prolific Atalanta striker Duvan Zapata on deadline day, according to reports in the English media.
The Colombian international, who has scored 105 goals in Italy’s Serie A, was said to be available, and despite believing they had a deal in place, it is said that Atalanta did not get back to the Hammers in time to complete the move.
Fans on Twitter are unsurprisingly frustrated that the Zapata transfer didn’t come off but many were questioning why David Moyes’ side left it so late to go after the player:
Maybe don’t leave it to the 11th hour when you have 31 days then! Club to blame no one else

Mate that’s what happens when you move for a target with late in the window with no time for the club to figure out a replacement

Only ourselves to blamed. Embarrassing lack of thought

The Irons have needed another striker for well over a year, following the departure of Sebastien Haller to Ajax, and yet, it appears the club came into the January transfer window without any real idea about who they wanted to sign.
Zapata was just one of a very long list of forwards that West Ham have been linked to in recent weeks but, once again, despite the obvious need, the Hammers ended up signing no one.
