West Ham are planning to make a move for Watford centre-back Craig Dawson in the coming days, according to the Sun.

Premier League clubs have until October 16th to agree transfers for Championship players but Hammers boss David Moyes is said to want a “deal sorted as early as possible” to make sure the defender can settle in at his new club.

West Ham’s next game is against Tottenham on Sunday week so there is time to get Dawson in before then but Watford are keen on getting £4m for the 30-year-old. They are looking to recoup the amount they paid West Brom for the player a year ago.

While the Irons may be reluctant to pay such a sum, they don’t have many alternatives. They failed in a bid to sign Chelsea defender Fikayo Tomori on loan before the transfer window closed and the only other player who may interest them is Swansea’s Joe Rodon

The Welsh international could, though, cost £18m and they may face competition from Spurs for the player.
