West Ham boss David Moyes claims that the Hammers will need to pick up silverware if they are to keep Declan Rice at the club.

When asked whether his team will ultimately have to win trophies to persuade the England international into staying for the long term, Moyes replied:

“Probably we do [have to win trophies], yeah, so we’ve got to keep driving it on. I have to keep driving and demanding that we keep moving on and being positive in our outlook of where we’re going to be. I need to keep adding good players, which is part of the club’s responsibility to keep with it.”

“But the good thing is that we’ve got him for another three and a half years on his contract, so we’re not under pressure from that. We would love him to stay, he’s so important to us, but like everything else we have to show that we can do it as well at West Ham.”

West Ham have reportedly placed a £150m price tag on Rice so, even if he does want to leave at the end of the season, it would be a surprise if any club comes close to matching the Irons’ demands.

Manchester United seem to be the likeliest team to make a move for the 23-year-old, but the player is still keener on joining Chelsea, despite the club’s ownership situation.

As Moyes points out himself, though, Rice has over three years left to run on his current deal at the London Stadium, if we include the option for an extra twelve months. West Ham are, therefore, perfectly positioned to keep hold of the midfielder.
