West Ham manager David Moyes does not believe Michail Antonio suffered an injury despite appearing to pull up before being taken off in the 0-0 draw against Fulham last night.
The 30-year-old’s problems with hamstring injuries are well documented but Moyes said that the forward was simply fatigued and there was no indication of a fitness issue:
“I don’t think it’s anything serious for Michail Antonio. I think he just felt as if he was beginning to fatigue.”
Whether Moyes was simply playing down fears with some crucial games coming up, we shall have to wait and see. The Hammers boss will be keeping his fingers crossed that Antonio is ready to play when they face Manchester United in the FA Cup next week.
They travel to Old Trafford on Tuesday night, before league matches versus Sheffield United and Tottenham. If Antonio is absent for any of those games, it would be a huge blow.
West Ham gambled by not signing a replacement for Sebastien Haller in the January transfer window, and they will be hoping that the decision doesn’t come back to haunt them.
