Premier League clubs are poised to scrap pay-per-view fixtures after the next international break, according to multiple reports in the English media.

Due to their universal unpopularity, the 20 teams are said to be looking at other potential methods to televise matches over Christmas and after the New Year.

A meeting was held with all Premier League shareholders yesterday and while a final decision about PPV has not been made yet, the feeling is a return to the model used at the start of the season is the likeliest outcome.

Some clubs are believed to be in favour of lowering the default PPV prices from £14.95 to £9.95, but it appears many more feel that televising all matches on Sky, BT, Amazon and the BBC would be the best approach.

Many fans have boycotted the pay-per-view games due to the extortionate price and some supporter groups have even raised money for local charities rather than pay the money to watch their teams play.

All of this weekend’s matches not scheduled for live broadcasts will still be on PPV but a decision on a change will come in the next two weeks ahead of the Premier League’s return on 21st November.
