Manchester City are “ready to fight” Manchester United for the signature of West Ham midfielder Declan Rice, according to the Sun.

Both Manchester teams are now said to be lining up offers for the England international next year, but the Hammers are expected to stick to their guns when it comes to the asking price.

The London club have consistently told potential suitors that they won’t sell Rice for below £100m, and the fact that both United and City are interested, along with Chelsea, will only strengthen their position.

The 22-year-old may have rejected two new contracts from the Irons but, with his current deal running until 2024, there is no pressure to offload the player.

City’s interest is thought to go back a number of years, having kept tabs on Rice since he made his first-team breakthrough. They are keen to find a long-term replacement for Fernandinho, but we shall see if they are prepared to pay £100m for a second summer in a row.
