Atalanta are preparing a €40m (£34m) bid for Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham, according to reports in the Italian media.

West Ham, Arsenal and Aston Villa are all said to be keen on snapping up the England international but Atalanta are reportedly confident of securing the player’s signature.

The Serie A side believe their participation in the Champions League, and the fact that Chelsea would prefer to sell Abraham abroad, will play in their favour.

The 23-year-old has been a key target for the Hammers all summer, but the London club are not believed to be prepared to pay Chelsea’s asking price, with doubts over whether they could afford his wages as well.

Atalanta’s proposal does, however, depend on two other transfers going ahead first. Chelsea are believed to be closing in on a deal for Romelu Lukaku and that would free up funds for Inter to snap up Duvan Zapata from Atalanta.

Only then would the Italian club be able to seal a deal for Abraham. We shall see how this transfer story plays out over the coming days and weeks.
