Manchester United are likely to challenge Chelsea in the race to sign West Ham midfielder Declan Rice, according to the Football Insider.

The Blues have been heavily linked with a move for the 21-year-old at the end of the season, with a £45m bid reportedly being planned.

However, it is now believed that United will “push” Chelsea all the way in their attempts to sign Rice, which could trigger a bidding war between the two clubs.

The Hammers are said to be very reluctant to let the England international leave and they are likely to hold out for as much as £70m for the player. They are hoping such a figure will put off interested parties.

Rice has been in excellent form since the restart and his contributions have played an important role in the club’s improved results in recent weeks. Whether they’ll be able to hold on to him beyond the end of the campaign, we shall have to wait and see.
