West Ham and other Premier League clubs based in London such as Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham, Fulham and Crystal Palace may be playing games behind closed doors once again before the end of December.

The Hammers played their first match for nine months in front of spectators at the London Stadium on Saturday, but the increase in virus infection rates in Greater London could see the tier 2 restrictions upgraded to tier 3.

Currently, infections are up in two-thirds of London’s boroughs, meaning more stringent restrictions may be required in order to reduce the spread of the virus in the capital.

Under tier 3 restrictions, all stadiums must close their doors and there is now a very real possibility that will happen to West Ham and other London teams in the Premier League.

The government will decide on December 16th whether the tiers should be altered for certain regions. The Irons face Crystal Palace at the London Stadium on the same day.
