The Belgian has reportedly turned down a new four-year contract, worth €800,000 a year, from the Serie A club with the player’s head having been turned by interest from the Premier League. The right-back recently stated he would like to play in England:

“If I were to choose a future destination, I would probably opt for England but I don’t have a favourite team, all the teams are beautiful.”

Tottenham, Inter Milan, Juventus, Napoli, Sevilla and Paris Saint-Germain have also been mentioned as potential destinations for Castagne in recent months.

The 24-year-old’s current deal expires next summer so Atalanta will have a decision to make when the transfer window reopens if he hasn’t put pen to paper on a new deal by then.

It is thought that the Italian side may hold out for €20m (£18m) to €25m (£22m) for Castagne, and that may be an issue for the Hammers considering the lack of transfer funds which will be available. Whether the current financial climate will see that asking price lowered, we shall have to wait and see.
