Borussia Dortmund have decided against offering Dan-Axel Zagadou a new contract, according to reports in the German media.

The France Under 21 international’s current deal with the Bundesliga club ends in June and he is now expected to leave Signal Iduna Park on a free transfer.

West Ham were linked with Zagadou back in January, while Manchester United have also been mentioned as a potential destination over the past couple of months, so there could now be a scramble to secure the defender’s signature.

The Hammers might well be hesitant about going after the 22-year-old, though. The main reason why Dortmund have opted against keeping Zagadou is due to his poor injury record.

While the centre-back is currently fit, he has missed 83 matches since he moved from Paris Saint-Germain four and a half years ago.

West Ham manager David Moyes may well take those fitness issues into account before deciding to table a contract offer to Zagadou.
