Ex-West Ham striker Carlton Cole has said he would love to see his former club pursue a deal to sign Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil.

The former German international has been frozen out by Gunners boss Mikel Arteta, who did not include him in his 25-man squad for the Premier League. Cole says the Hammers are always attracted to signing flair players but he can’t understand why he is available in the first place:

“West Ham have always liked those players anyway, those magician sort of players. They do like them. He is one of them ones. I think Arsenal would have benefitted with him in the squad. I just don’t understand why he’s not in there.”

Ozil has been tipped to leave the Emirates in January with a move to the United States the likeliest option at the moment. There has also been some talk that Arsenal may well look to terminate his contract before then, although such a move could be prohibitive considering his sizeable wages.

His salary would also probably price him out of a move to West Ham, especially considering how the Irons limited their spending in the last transfer window. Of course Man United were once linked with a move for Ozil when it was rumoured Jose Mourinho wanted to reunite with the German who he managed when the two were at Real Madrid. It would not be the first time United moved for a soon to be Arsenal free-agent – remember Alexis Sanchez and his disastrous move to Old Trafford and we know that Sanchez had been due to join Man City. How things can turn out imagine if Mesut Ozil somehow ended up playing for one of the Manchester clubs – stranger things have happened.
