West Ham are interested in signing Southampton striker Danny Ings, according to reports in the English media.
The Hammers have joined a long list of Premier League clubs who are keeping tabs on the former Liverpool player’s situation at St Mary’s. The Hammers, Tottenham, Aston Villa, as well as the likes of Manchester City and Chelsea are all said to be weighing up an approach for the 28-year-old.
Ings has turned down a new four-year contract with the Saints, and after scoring 38 goals over the last two seasons, the England international has ambitions of playing at a higher level.
The forward’s preference is believed to be a Champions League club, but West Ham would stand as good a chance as any if higher-profile clubs don’t come forward between now and the end of August.
With Ings having less than one year remaining on his current deal with Southampton, there is also the possibility of signing him on a free transfer next summer.
