West Ham have shown a “firm interest” in signing Arsenal fullback Ainsley Maitland-Niles, according to the Sun. The newspaper claims that the Hammers, along with Fulham, Crystal Palace and Tottenham are all keen on the player.
The Gunners are said to have slapped a £30m price tag on the 22-year-old, but it is believed that they will accept an offer of around £20m if it becomes clear that no one is prepared to match their demands.
West Ham are on the lookout for a new fullback, with River Plate’s Gonzalo Montiel and Barcelona’s Moussa Wague having been mentioned as potential targets. However, Maitland-Niles would cost substantially more than either of those two players.
It has been widely reported that the Irons will have to sell before they buy this summer and, while signing a new right-back will be high on the agenda, the likelihood of the Arsenal defender moving to the London Stadium currently looks pretty low.
