West Ham and Newcastle have both registered an interest in signing Juventus striker Gonzalo Higuain, according to reports in the Italian media.
The former Chelsea loanee is not part of new Juve manager Andrea Pirlo’s first-team plans and the Serie A champions have been trying to terminate the Argentinian international’s contract a year early.
Higuain’s likely availability on a free transfer has led to the Hammers taking a look at the 32-year-old, with manager David Moyes having sold two strikers in Albian Ajeti and Jordan Hugill this summer.
At this moment in time, though, the London club have not stepped up their interest with the player also keen on ensuring he gets suitable compensation from his contract termination before considering his future any further.
Higuain did struggle somewhat during his time in England, but he still managed to score five goals in 14 Premier League appearances. Whether West Ham will return when the player becomes a free agent, we shall have to wait and see.
