Manchester United have made it known that they will make the “first offer” for Bayern Munich forward Robert Lewandowski if he is made available this summer, according to Bild.

The German tabloid claims that the Polish international is “surprised” that he hasn’t been personally contacted by Bayern about his contract situation, despite the fact that his current deal expires at the end of next season.

There have been reports that Bayern could consider offloading Lewandowski in order to bring in a younger replacement such as Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland but his outstanding goal record has prompted many to urge the Bundesliga champions to keep hold of the striker.

Lewandowski’s hat-trick against Red Bull Salzburg last night means he has now scored a remarkable 42 goals in only 35 appearances this campaign.

The 33-year-old has been linked with Manchester City over the past year, while Arsenal have even been suggested in the past few days, but United will also be in the market for a forward as they look to replace Edinson Cavani.
