Former Newcastle head coach Steve Bruce is interested in becoming Manchester United’s interim manager, according to reports in England.

The 60-year-old was sacked by the Magpies last month after presiding over a winless start to the season. He is a former United captain but supporters on Twitter are very much against him being considered for the role:

With many of the top managerial candidates only likely to be interested in taking over at Old Trafford at the end of the campaign, United’s board have a massive task on their hands to find someone who would be willing to take charge on a short-term basis.

Sevilla head coach Julen Lopetegui has been mentioned as a possible option, due to his connections with Cristiano Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes, while Laurent Blanc and Ralf Rangnick could also be considered.

Blanc may be an ex-player like Bruce, but he has a much better track record, having won four Ligue One titles with Bordeaux and PSG. Rangnick, meanwhile, has a very identifiable style of play and works well with young talent.
