Celtic’s Liel Abada and Tom Rogic were the standout players in the 4-0 win over Motherwell yesterday afternoon but the performance of teammate Giorgos Giakoumakis has also been a topic of discussion among fans.
Like in the derby against Rangers midweek, the Greek international was industrious at Fir Park. He held up the ball well, but he was somewhat profligate in front of goal and supporters on Twitter were pretty divided on whether he is good enough to be starting for the Hoops:
Reminds me of Hartson type , been needing that for years 🙌🏻

Just a shame he can’t put the ball in the net

Work horse. Very unlucky not to have scored more. He will get goals.

Needs goals though also he always looks a bit awkward on and off the ball

He’ll start banging them in

Needs to start scoring soon though. Really willing him on to get a couple of goals as he’s been unlucky. Another good shift today but Celtic strikers need to be scoring goals!

To be fair to Giakoumakis, he isn’t the type of player who is good on the eye but he does do the dirty work, and he is clearly capable of winning duels even against the most robust defences in the Scottish Premiership.
He will need to do more to justify the £2.1m that was spent on him during the summer, but he is a useful weapon to have in the armoury, specifically against teams who are hard to break down. Whether he’ll start matches when Kyogo Furuhashi is fit, though, is another matter.
