Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has not been ruled out of the running to become Manchester United’s next permanent manager, according to The Athletic‘s Laurie Whitwell.

The very reliable journalist claims that some sources have told him that Tuchel is “open to hearing United’s pitch” if the Red Devils do make an official approach for the German.

Up until now, it has been widely assumed that Tuchel is committed to Chelsea, despite the ongoing crisis at the club and, while Whitwell says the 48-year-old has given “indications” that he would stay on at Stamford Bridge under new ownership, the situation is “complex”.

For United to stand any chance of getting Tuchel, though, they would need to move decisively for him, but there is a feeling that on the sporting side, the club’s executives are not capable of making such ambitious moves.

While they are still “monitoring” Tuchel’s situation, United are looking at other names, including Ajax boss Erik ten Hag, PSG’s Mauricio Pochettino, Sevilla head coach Julen Lopetegui and Spain manager Luis Enrique.
