£54m Rated Ligue One Star Says It Is “Flattering” To Be Linked With City

Both Pep Guardiola’s side and Arsenal have been mentioned as possible destinations for the 22-year-old in the French press over the past week. When asked yesterday about the rumours ahead of Lyon’s game against City this evening, Aouar said he is more focused on winning the game than thinking about his future:

“I don’t know if it’s a job interview tomorrow night but it’s always flattering to have your name linked with clubs like that. If I’m honest it’s not relevant ahead of a big game. I’m 100 per cent focussed on Lyon because these are really important games and I’m excited to be a part of them.”

Guardiola is known to be a big fan of Aouar but it remains to be seen whether City will actually make a formal approach for him. Lyon can only qualify for Europe if they win the Champions League and if the Ligue One side fail to do so, they will be forced into selling some of their star names.

However, it is believed that the Citizens are not focused on signing another midfielder this summer, despite the impending departure of David Silva. It is thought that Phil Foden will be given a more prominent role in the starting eleven next season.
