Avram Grant Makes Chelsea Comparison As He Makes Claim That City’s Squad Lacks A “Top, Top Player”

Ex-Chelsea manager Avram Grant does not believe that Manchester City’s current squad is superior to others in the Premier League.

In fact, the 65-year-old goes as far as to say that his former team Chelsea have more depth, stating that the Citizens lost their best player in David Silva when he departed the club last summer:

“They’ve spent a lot of money. [Kai] Havertz is a big talent, others players from Ajax, Timo Werner… I think they have the squad, they need to put them together but I don’t see any other team that has a better squad than them… I don’t think that City now, after David Silva left, have a better squad than others. I think what’s happened is that they have a very good team and squad but tell me one position where they have a top, top player now. Top, I mean like David Silva or others. I don’t think so.”

These are very controversial claims from Grant, and while it could be argued that Chelsea do have more quality in certain positions, such as at left-back, his comments on the lack of world-class players are way off the mark.

Kevin De Bruyne, Ederson and Ruben Dias are all top talents that would get into any team in world football, and the fact that they are 15 points ahead of Chelsea in the Premier League table shows their squad is superior.

Considering the number of games that City have had to play in such a short period of time this campaign as well, manager Pep Guardiola has had to use every member of his squad to get his team to the top of the league.
