REPORT: City Opt Against Making ‘Official Offer’ For Serie A Midfield Maestro

Manchester City have not followed up their interest in Napoli midfielder Piotr Zielinski with an “official offer”, according to La Repubblica.

The Italian publication claims that the Polish international is now unlikely to leave Italy this summer, with the player very much a key part of new head coach Luciano Spalletti’s first-team plans.

Liverpool and Arsenal were also thought to be considering a move for Zielinski but Napoli are believed to be confident of keeping hold of the player, having tied down the Pole to a five-year contract last year.

City have a wealth of options in the middle of the park so signing someone like Zielinski is unlikely to be a priority for manager Pep Guardiola anyway.

The priority remains to find a replacement for Sergio Aguero. Tottenham’s Harry Kane is still said to be the number one target, although getting a deal over the line is likely to be very challenging.
