Former Manchester City midfielder Frank Lampard was sacked by Chelsea this morning after 18 months in charge at Stamford Bridge.
Although results had declined alarmingly in recent weeks, there were no signs that Lampard would be dispensed with so soon, and City fans on Twitter have reacted with a mixture of surprise and mockery towards the Blues’ decision:

@ManCity wish we could bring him on board to learn under Pep, and later sent to any of our CITY’s group clubs to go coach.

Lampard’s time at the Etihad was short, and his long association with Chelsea meant he was never really held in high regard by supporters, but the news this morning still came as a shock.
Blues owner Roman Abramovich is not one for being patient with his managers but it was felt, considering Lampard’s standing at the London club, that he would be given more time in the job.
However, it appears that there were also other issues which led to Lampard’s demise. It is expected that former Borussia Dortmund and PSG head coach Thomas Tuchel will take the reins later this week.
