Manchester United were the only team Raphael Varane was prepared to leave Real Madrid for, according to reports in the English media.
Chelsea and Manchester City also made enquiries about the 28-year-old, but the centre-back had his heart set on a move to Old Trafford as he was a big fan of Rio Ferdinand growing up.
Supporters on Twitter are delighted that Varane was so determined to join United and they feel it says something about the stature of the club:

Getting a world-class defender for around €50m (£43m) is certainly not a bad piece of business, and manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be happy with how the club have managed to secure the French World Cup winner’s services.
With Jadon Sancho also having joined the Red Devils, the squad is undoubtedly a lot stronger and we shall see if there will be more additions before the transfer window closes next month.
