Arsenal may have been on the wrong end of the scoreline against Liverpool last night, but that shouldn’t take anything away from the performance of Gabriel Martinelli.
The Brazilian was a constant menace on the left-hand side, causing Trent Alexander-Arnold, in particular all sorts of problems. Supporters on Twitter were keen to recognise the forward’s display after the game:
Had Trent on ropes and also had to track him defensively hence why Trent didn’t have a massive influence and their xG wasn’t so high. Massive showing from him

He was a whisker away from scoring a fine goal at the far past towards the end. The boy has a glorious future 🙌🏼

He had a good game, could have at least bagged a goal for us but no qualms.

Only if he had end product. That was my only frustration for him. He needs to start making right decisions in front of goal

This proves Gabi more than deserving for the legendary and vacant #14 jersey number next season, change my mind.

Absolutely robbed of an assist man 🙁

Martinelli is hard to stop in his current form but, as some fans have mentioned, there is still some work to do on his end product.
There were two moments in the second half where he could have done better. The first was where he skipped past Alexander-Arnold and Jordan Henderson to get to the byline only to fail with the final ball. The second came with a few minutes left when his curling effort sailed past the far post.
Nonetheless, he was, by a distance, Arsenal’s best player on the night and the 20-year-old has everything in his game to make it to the very top.
