Dusan Vlahovic has emerged on Les Parisiens’ radar – if Kylian Mbappe leaves.

Victor Osimhen is another named by Corriere dello Sport as a target for PSG in this scenario, the Napoli star having also caught Chelsea’s eye.

Reports in Spain claim Mbappe and Real Madrid already have an agreement for him to sign on a six-year contract when he becomes a free agent next season, which could boost Chelsea if PSG have to wait to sign a replacement.

Chelsea swap plan for Dusan Vlahovic set to collapse

Friday 14 July 2023 21:56 , Marc Mayo

Chelsea have been hoping to send Romelu Lukaku away as part of a swap deal with Juventus.

That’s according to Corriere della Sera, who report on Dusan Vlahovic being the Blues’ top target to upgrade their attack.

However, Lukaku is intent on returning to Inter and a move to Turin would be seen as a big betrayal by the Nerazzurri fans.

And Inter’s sale of Andre Onana to Manchester United should give them the funds to complete that deal.

Timber is thought to be seen as a right-back by the Gunners, while also capable of playing in central defence.

“I think that I’m lucky to say that I can play as a central defender, as a right full-back, sometimes even in midfield,” he said.

“So I think that’s a good thing and I need to keep that.

The identity of the Chelsea quintet has not been revealed but Kalidou Koulibaly did sign for £25m earlier this summer.

The striker missed two huge opportunities to seal a friendly win in Nurnberg as the Gunners were held to a draw by the second-tier German side.

And Mikel Arteta has refused to confirm that Balogun will get the first-team chance he so desires, amid talk of a £50m exit.

Arteta said: “Well this is what he has been doing and that’s why we gave him the minutes that he deserves to show what he can do.

“He’s just staying here with us at the moment and we will see what happens.”

Havertz and Arteta react to Arsenal debut

The 19,000 fans in the Max-Morlock-Stadion had to wait patiently to get their first glimpse of Kai Havertz in an Arsenal shirt.

The midfielder was named as a substitute for yesterday’s 1-1 draw in Nurnberg, eventually coming on at half-time to huge cheers from local fans.

And, while they had to wait to see one of the stars of the German national team, Arsenal fans in north London will need to be patient, too, as Havertz adapts to Mikel Arteta’s team.

It could be some time before we see the ‘real Kai Havertz’ — and Chelsea fans will argue they only ever saw it in glimpses during his three years there.

Spurs meet Bayern over Kane deal

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy met with Bayern Munich club officials on Thursday to discuss a potential deal for Harry Kane, writes Dan Kilpatrick.

Kane’s future is again the subject of summer uncertainty but he is expected to join the rest of Ange Postecoglou’s squad flying out to Australia later on Friday for the club’s pre-season tour.

German giants Bayern Munich have made Kane their top transfer target this summer and have seen two bids rejected by Spurs, the second understood to be worth around £70million plus add-ons.

Spurs have always maintained Kane is not for sale, despite the striker entering the final 12 months of his contract, but it is thought they would have to consider an offer in excess of £100m for their talisman.

West Ham and Crystal Palace have expressed an interest in Torino centre-back Perr Schuurs, writes Dom Smith.

Torino signed Schuurs from Ajax for £8million last summer. His contract in Turin runs until 2026 and includes an option for an additional year.

Brentford want £50m-rated Johnson

Brentford are weighing up a new club-record bid for Brennan Johnson, despite Nottingham Forest demanding more than £50million for him.

The Bees, along with Villa and several unnamed clubs, continue to chase the 22-year-old after having a club-record £30m bid rejected last month. They first had an offer turned down for him in January 2022.

Forest insist Johnson, who is under contract until 2026, remains part of their plans but his suitors believe they can drive down the asking price to £40m.

Moises Caicedo is not wedded to the idea of joining Chelsea this summer.

Kane will not push for Tottenham exit

Harry Kane does not intend to push to leave Tottenham this summer, even if the club continues to turn down bids for him from the likes of Bayern Munich.

Kane, who has entered the final 12 months of a six-year contract, returned to Spurs training on Wednesday and has since held positive talks with new head coach Ange Postecoglou, though his future remains up in the air. He is set to be part of the squad to leave for Perth for the first leg of the club’s pre-season tour this evening.

As it stands, Kane is keeping an open mind on his future and would consider leaving Spurs this summer, departing on a free transfer in a year’s time or signing a new contract.

He will not, though, commit to a new deal while the transfer window remains open and unless Spurs show significant progress on the pitch under Postecoglou in the coming campaign.

Moyes frustrated by Rice delays

Friday 14 July 2023 09:53 , Alex Young

West Ham boss David Moyes has admitted the club cannot buy a like-for-like replacement for captain Declan Rice.

Rice is closing in on a move to Arsenal this weekend and is set to join the Gunners as part of a deal worth £105million.

The Hammers will use the money to reinvest in the squad and are interested in a number of players, including Bristol City youngster Alex Scott, Fulham midfielder Joao Palhinha and Southampton captain Jamies Ward-Prowse.

“I don’t think we can replace Declan exactly like for like, that’s for sure,” said Moyes. “But we’ll add to the squad as time goes on. We won’t be giving you any names or any thoughts on what we’re going to do.

“Until it’s done, we can’t plan anything, really, so we’ll wait and see what happens. Everybody knows the situation. We’re expecting something to happen, but I think you were saying it was done two weeks ago and it’s still not done.”

Balogun enjoyed a prolific loan spell with French side Reims last season, scoring 22 goals in 39 appearances across all competitions.

Speaking after the draw in Germany, Arteta said: “Well this is what he has been doing and that’s why we gave him the minutes that he deserves to show what he can do.”

Why Arsenal have signed Timber

During a week in which Arsenal are looking to wrap up a club-record £105million move for Declan Rice, the signing of Jurrien Timber has the potential to fly under the radar.

The defender is finalising a £38.5m switch from Ajax, significantly less than the fee for Rice and the £65m Arsenal paid to buy Kai Havertz from Chelsea.

But, while Timber may be the cheapest signing of their £200m summer recruitment drive, he is backing himself to make a big impact at the Emirates Stadium.

The 22-year-old Netherlands international arrives from the Eredivisie with a growing reputation and will primarily provide competition for Ben White at right-back. Arsenal believe he can tuck into midfield from there, much like Oleksandr Zinchenko does at left-back.

When Zinchenko was out last season, the Gunners faltered, but Mikel Arteta believes Timber can now provide a viable solution from the opposite flank. He will also provide cover at centre-back, which is where he established himself at Ajax.

(Evening Standard)

Arsenal to announce Timber today

Arsenal will unveil the signing of Jurrien Timber today.

According to Football.London, a minor contract issue has held up the Dutchman’s £40m arrival being confirmed despite the deal being done last week.

Arteta issues Havert debut verdict

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta says he is still working out where best to play Kai Havertz this season.

The Gunners’ new £65million man was handed his debut on Thursday, coming on at half-time against Nurnberg with his team 1-0 up thanks to Bukayo Saka’s opening goal.

However, Havertz underwhelmed in his new surroundings and failed to have any impact of note from the wing. Speaking after the game, Arteta was asked about where he sees Havertz fitting into his side after a quiet first 45 minutes in red.

“We will see,” he replied. “We have to see how he adapts and get to know each other and build relationships.

“Football is about that and time will tell where he sees best.”
