Ornstein Confirms Friday Deadline As 34M Transfer Hangs In The Balance

Roma will withdraw their interest in Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham if a move is not finalised by Friday, according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein.

The Serie A side have reportedly had a €40m (£34m) offer accepted for the 23-year-old but the player is dragging his heels and is not said to be that interested in making the switch to Italy.

Abraham would much prefer to stay in England, with Arsenal his favoured destination, but the Gunners do not have the funds to sign him and would need to offload some players to make a deal happen.

Roma are, therefore, the only option on the table at the moment, with Ornstein claiming that manager Jose Mourinho has spoken to the England international directly in the hope of persuading him to change clubs.

The agreement with the Giallorossi is not a loan with a purchase clause; it is a straight-up permanent deal with Chelsea having a buyback option on Abraham.
