Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger played a key role as the Blues secured a vital 2-1 win over Leicester City last night.
The German international scored the opener just after half-time from a corner, and his aggressive defending set the tone for what was an excellent performance from the home side.
Rudiger’s dominance meant the Foxes had very few openings on the night, and he let his opponents know he was there with some strong but fair challenges. Supporters on Twitter were extremely impressed with the 28-year-old’s display:
His power and aggressiveness are essential for this Chelsea team. He gives me those Diego Costa bully vibes that are so necessary un a team that aims high every season.

There’s no doubt that Rudiger is Thomas Tuchel’s chief lieutenant on the pitch. He exudes the aggression and commitment that the manager demands from his players.
The centre-back’s willingness to play with a fractured jaw reflects the player’s character, his determination to fight for the cause and to do a job for his team at a critical stage of the season. He has more than done enough to warrant a contract extension.
