REPORT: Chelsea Still Want To Pay 50M For Midfielder Who Has Been Compared To Steven Gerrard

Chelsea remain keen on signing Monaco midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni despite the sanctions preventing them from recruiting new players, according to Sport.

Both the Blues and Real Madrid are said to be the frontrunners for the France international’s signature but the ownership situation at Stamford Bridge has cast doubt over Chelsea’s ability to secure the player’s services.

Monaco’s sporting director Paul Mitchell has compared Tchouameni’s style of play to Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard and they are demanding €60m (£50m) for the 22-year-old; a figure that Chelsea are willing to pay. However, the London club are currently hamstrung with the takeover process not expected to be concluded before the end of April.

Other Premier Leagues teams, such as Liverpool and Manchester United, have also been mentioned as potential suitors for Tchouameni, but it does seem as though the Blues have the upper hand, as long as they are in a position to make a bid when the summer transfer window opens.
