Serie A Giants Preparing To Sell 84M Rated Defender Who Chelsea See As Rudiger’s Replacement

Juventus are looking to offload Matthijs de Ligt, according to Sportmediaset. The Italian TV channel claims that the Dutchman has already made the decision to leave Serie A, with Chelsea and Barcelona his two main suitors.

De Ligt is Juve’s highest-paid player, reportedly earning €12m (£10.1m) a season (with bonuses), and Juve seem willing to let him leave this summer in order to get him off the wage bill.

Chelsea are expected to be in the market for a new centre-back, with the contracts of Cesar Azpilicueta, Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger all set to expire in June.

Sportmediaset report that de Ligt is likely to be a replacement for Rudiger, with the German having recently turned down another offer from the Blues to extend his stay at Stamford Bridge beyond the end of the season.

De Ligt is believed to have a €125m (£105m) release clause but it is said that Juventus may let him go for a fee closer to €100m (£84m). Whether that would tempt Chelsea into making a bid, we shall have to wait and see.
