Chelsea wingback Marcos Alonso was one of the standout performers as the Blues triumphed over Spurs in the London derby yesterday evening.
The Spaniard created the opener from a corner, which Thiago Silva headed home, while he was a constant menace on the left flank as the Tottenham defence failed to mark him.
Fans on Twitter have been praising Alonso for his excellent form, with some questioning whether Ben Chilwell will get any minutes this season:
Tottenham’s Nightmare.

I really like Chilwell and in a vacuum I think he’s a better option, but it’d be really hard to drop Alonso based on his form.

Chilwell has work to do if he is ever going to take his position back in this team

Alonso’s career at Stamford Bridge has been a rollercoaster, to say the least, but when he is deployed as a wingback, like he has been under manager Thomas Tuchel, he usually puts in a good display.
You have to feel sorry for Chilwell, who hasn’t really done a lot wrong to find himself out of the starting eleven, but Alonso’s consistent performances since the beginning of the campaign means he deserves to keep his place.
