Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold is expected to miss out on England’s squad for the European Championships, according to reports in the UK.
Despite an excellent run of form in recent months, which has seen the 22-year-old score one goal and provide four assists in his last nine league appearances, national team manager Gareth Southgate is likely to snub the defender.
Some fans on Twitter are outraged by the reported decision, while others are glad that Alexander-Arnold will have the summer off:

Good, we can have a fresh TAA for next season.
Hopefully, it’s too early for Hendo too.— Abu Zara ? (@AbuZara007) May 24, 2021
Southgate would be wrong to leave him out and I am sure Trent would rather be there. However being selfish i don’t mind, give him time to have a decent break. Henderson is now looking like he may be fit, wish he would do what Virgil has done.

For a lot of Liverpool supporters, Alexander-Arnold’s omission from the England squad won’t mean much, but the player himself will, undoubtedly, be hit hard by the decision.
It is not the first time over the past 30 to 40 years that a Liverpool player has been underappreciated by an England manager, and Southgate’s bizarre selection call will certainly be used against him if his side fail to perform at the Euros.
