Serie A Chief Provides Update On 59.4M Rated Liverpool Target’s Future Following Praise From Klopp

Inter Milan vice-president Javier Zanetti believes Lautaro Martinez is “happy” to stay with the Serie A champions.

The Argentinian international only signed a new contract back in October but, after Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp praised the striker earlier this month, reports in the Italian media claimed the Reds do hold an interest in the player. Zanetti, though, has been keen to play down the transfer speculation:

“The great players will always be in demand by the big clubs but I see him every day and he is happy (at Inter). His happiness leaves me very calm. He feels important.”

Martinez was believed to be available for around €70m (£59.4m) last summer, with Inter needing money to address their financial problems. It led to reports that both Arsenal and Tottenham were looking to snap up the 24-year-old.

However, the Nerazzurri managed to offload both Romelu Lukaku and Achraf Hakimi to balance the books, with Martinez committing his long-term future to the Italian club. With all the signs pointing to the forward staying with his current team, this transfer rumour can now surely be put to bed.
