Rangers are close to signing Amiens midfielder Bonjani Zungu for £3.6m, according to reports in both the French and Scottish media.
It is believed that the South African international turned down interest from Celta Vigo in order to seal a move to Ibrox. However, supporters on Twitter are not sure why the Light Blues need another midfielder:
Can he play up front????

Ah yes, another midfielder is just what’s needed… ?

We have an abundance of midfielders but a shortage of strikers. We are cutting it fine for Saturday and could end up with the “stick a big lad up front” approach on Saturday against a team that thrives on sitting in and counter attack. Love to be proved wrong!

don’t think we need another midfielder

Kamara played the Davis role fine during preseason. I think this is a needless signing

Who?

100% need strikers but think its more of a replacement for SD. Take the heat off him a bit. Use SD as a 65 min sub to see a tough game out?

From the outside looking in, it is a head-scratcher. £3.6m is a significant investment for any player, and while the Gers could do with some more legs in midfield, the glaring weakness in the squad is up front.
Considering Jermain Defoe’s hamstring problem and the prospect of Alfredo Morelos leaving, surely the money should have been used to finance a move for a new striker?
Zungu may well prove supporters wrong if he comes in and makes an impact on the first team straight away, but he could hardly be described as an essential purchase.
