Rangers may have been on the wrong end of a penalty shootout defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League final last night, but the players deserve huge credit for the performance they put in.
Calvin Bassey, in particular, was outstanding on the night, delivering a commanding display in the centre of defence. Supporters on Twitter have been paying tribute to the 22-year-old:
Yeah he was my man of the match

He loves playing and we love watching him, hopefully we keep hold of him.

The progress in the boy this year has been phenomenal. Won’t be surprised if someone comes in with a big bid for him in the close season

Absolute Legend last night, we need to keep hold of him, he’s only gonna get better. 💙

Bassey was pretty much flawless throughout the 120 minutes. The one mistake he did make, which saw him miss control the ball, he made up for almost instantly by making a vital tackle.
The defender has come on leaps and bounds this season, and he has matured into an excellent player, who is equally comfortable at both centre-back or left-back.
There have been some rumours that former manager Steven Gerrard could try and sign Bassey for Aston Villa, but the Gers should do all they can to keep him at Ibrox this summer.
