Journalist Reveals West Ham Will Try To Ward Off Interest In 22 Year Old With New Contract In The “Next 6 Months”

West Ham will look to offer another new contract to fullback Ben Johnson within the “next six months” according to journalist Dean Jones.

The 22-year-old was linked with Arsenal, Tottenham and Liverpool before the Hammers unilaterally triggered their option to extend his current deal from 2022 to 2024 The club were hoping to come to an agreement over a pay rise but talks broke down and Jones says they will now try and revive negotiations:

“They tried to sign him on a long-term contract, which wasn’t done, but they triggered this extension and from what I understand, West Ham want to get him to sign fresh terms within the next six months or so if they can.”

West Ham were wise to trigger their extension as it removed the risk of Johnson leaving on a free transfer this summer, but it wasn’t promising to hear that they were struggling to find a compromise on personal terms.

Hopefully, with no pressure in regards to interest from other teams, it will lead to the two sides coming to an agreement this time around. If Jones is correct, we should hear more about it before the end of the year.
