“For Sure…” Guardiola Makes Premier League Title Race Prediction

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola predicts that the title winners this season will finish the season with over 90 points.

The Citizens clinched first last campaign with only 86, 12 ahead of second-place Manchester United, but Guardiola can’t see the same scenario being repeated:

“The champions will have to win a lot of games for sure. 90 [points] or over. Last year had Covid and was without people, it was a tough year for all the clubs. Sometimes there were consequences to drop some points and we won the league quite comfortably at the end.”

At the moment, Guardiola’s side are averaging 2.33 points per game, and if that carries on for the rest of the season, it would give them approximately 89 points, so the Spaniard is not that far off in his points prediction.

After 15 matches, there is just two points separating leaders City, Liverpool in second and Chelsea in third; a gap that Guardiola would like to see grow in the coming weeks as we head into a very busy festive period.

All three title contenders are in action today with the reigning champions kicking things off with the lunchtime match against Wolves. Liverpool host Steve Gerrard’s Aston Villa, while Chelsea face Leeds in the 3 o’clock kickoffs.
