Spain’s Luis Enrique is now one of three candidates to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as Manchester United manager, according to the Manchester Evening News journalist Samuel Luckhurst.

The reporter, who has a rather patchy track record when it comes to reliability, claims that the former Celta Vigo and Barcelona head coach has been shortlisted, along with Ajax’s Erik ten Hag and Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers:

Luckhurst believes Solskjaer is now a dead man walking. United’s board have already decided to replace Norwegian, and it is now a matter of ‘when’ rather than ‘if’ he is sacked.

Rodgers is thought to be the favoured candidate for now, with the former Liverpool and Celtic manager having impressed United’s hierarchy, but there is still a chance that Solskjaer could stay until the summer.

Compensation would be required, both to appoint Rodgers and to sack Solskjaer, and it seems there is still a reluctance to pull the trigger in the hope that better options will come along at the end of the season.
