Manchester United are hoping to reach a compromise with Atletico Madrid over the transfer fee for Kieran Trippier, according to reports in the local media.

It has been claimed that the La Liga champions would hold out for a fee in the region of €50m (£43m) for the 30-year-old but United believe a deal could be done for £25m.

Even at that price, though, fans on Twitter are sceptical about paying so much for the right-back, when there are better options available on the transfer market:

It does seem a bit strange that the Red Devils are willing to pay so much for a player who is the wrong side of 30. There are certainly younger right-backs out there who could provide good enough competition for Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

Atletico’s reluctance to sell means they are also demanding a lot more than Trippier is worth. The Spanish side are believed to be eyeing Arsenal’s Hector Bellerin as a replacement, but it seems that deal isn’t going to happen at the moment.

United could wait until later in the summer for Atletico to find an alternative for Trippier and that could then allow them to sign the Englishman for a more reasonable price.
