Ralf Rangnick wants to become Manchester United’s next manager but his request to have overall control of the club’s footballing operation has stopped the Red Devils from hiring the German, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Italian journalist reports that while the 63-year-old wants to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, United’s board are now looking at other possible candidates as they are not willing to agree to his demands:

“It’s not easy because he wants the full power on everything. It’s not just the technical point, the system or these kinds of things. He wants to decide on everything at the club and this is why Ralf Rangnick isn’t so easy for Manchester United.”

“He’s appreciated by someone in the board but he’s not one of the main options right now… From Rangnick there is the desire to manage with Manchester United, it is a dream for him.“But, for now, there is nothing going on from United with Rangnick.”

Rangnick may not be well known in England but he was an extremely influential coach in Germany, having inspired the careers of Jurgen Klopp and Julian Nagelsmann, among others.

His recruitment during his time at the Red Bull Group has also been widely praised so his demands to take full control of United are not without merit.

However, with the Red Devils having recently appointed the likes of John Murtough and Darren Fletcher to important roles, it is not surprising that the club are unwilling to tear their strategy up for Rangnick.
