Manchester United legend Paul Scholes says manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer much prove his managerial credentials this season after putting together a competitive squad.

Scholes believes that his former teammate has no room for excuses and the Norwegian must demonstrate he can compete with coaches such as Pep Guardiola, Thomas Tuchel and Jurgen Klopp, who have won major trophies in their careers:

“Ole has now built a squad that is capable of winning the big prizes and that’s what he has been brought to do. The only difference is the quality of the managers, Man City, Chelsea, Liverpool have proven winners. You’ve got Ole who has done a fantastic job building this squad, now is the time with that squad of players. He has to win something.”

It really is a brutal assessment from Scholes but one that Solskjaer must take on board, especially after some of the decisions he made in the 2-1 defeat to Young Boys last night.

The Norwegian was heavily criticised for substituting the likes of Jadon Sancho, Donny van de Beek and Cristiano Ronaldo when the Red Devils were reduced to ten men.

It will be very important for United to get back to winning ways against West Ham this weekend, to make sure the momentum from the team’s early-season performances is not lost.
