Manchester United and Newcastle have both looked into the possibility of signing Borussia Dortmund centre-back Dan-Axel Zagadou, according to reports in the German media.

The France Under 21 international is out of contract in the summer and he is able to enter talks with foreign clubs about a free transfer.

United boss Ralf Rangnick is believed to be the driving force behind the club’s interest in Zagadou, having tried to sign the defender before when he was RB Leipzig’s Sporting Director.

Contact has reportedly been made with Zagadou’s agent, Moussa Sissoko, but Dortmund also remain confident that they can keep hold of the player. Negotiations over an extension are being held but the interest from teams such as United and Newcastle could muddy the waters.

Money talks and the two Premier League sides are likely to be able to offer Zagadou a much higher salary than Dortmund are willing to pay.
