Manchester United are very interested in signing Barcelona centre-back Ronald Araujo, according to Marca.
The Spanish newspaper claims that the Red Devils are prepared to make a “large investment” in the Uruguayan international, who is locked in talks with Barca over a new contract.
Araujo is currently earning just €900k a year (£14,700 a week), and he is demanding a sizeable increase in his salary to €6m per annum (£97,500 a week), which is making negotiations difficult.
Marca claim that United are willing to push for the 22-year-old’s signature, and he could be available for a reasonable price, considering his current deal at Camp Nou expires at the end of next season.
Other Premier League teams, including Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool, have also been linked with Araujo in recent months but it seems as though United are the ones who are the likeliest to secure the player’s signature, if he doesn’t stay at his current club.
