Celtic are interested in signing Barnsley’s Callum Styles, according to The Sun journalist Alan Nixon.
The usually reliable reporter claims that the Hoops are considering the Englishman as a potential candidate to strengthen their options at left-back.
However, it would be very surprising if that turns out to be true as Styles has never played on the left-hand side of a back four in his whole senior career.
The 21-year-old has been playing as a left wingback this season but he has spent just as much time as a central midfielder since he made his first-team debut at his first club Bury.
Manager Ange Postecoglou’s attacking style of play could lend itself to having someone like Styles at left-back but he is unlikely to have the necessary defensive qualities currently to be a regular starter.
Perhaps Celtic’s recruitment team see Styles as someone who can be converted into a defender over time, with the likes of Greg Taylor and Liam Scales being used in the interim.
