Celtic are keen to agree a new contract with winger Ben Doak as quickly as possible following interest from English Premier League giants Liverpool, according to reports in the Scottish media.

The 16-year-old has yet to sign onto professional terms with the Hoops and Liverpool would only have to pay minimal compensation at the end of the season were he to decide against putting pen to paper on a new deal.

Doak has not made his senior debut for Celtic yet, but he was named on the bench by manager Ange Postecoglou for the 3-1 win over St Johnstone last month.

He has, however, played for Scotland’s Under 17 and he probably caught the eye of Liverpool scouts when playing for his country during the European Championship qualifiers earlier this season.

Due to Brexit rules, clubs in the UK can no longer sign players from abroad who are under 18, and that means Premier League teams are beginning to look closer to home in order to fill their academies.
