Celtic midfielder Matt O’Riley has named Jota as the most technically gifted player in the current Hoops squad.
O’Riley only joined the club last month, but he has already been impressed by his Portuguese teammate’s talent on the ball:
“If I’m going off pure smoothness and technical ability then I’d probably say Jota to be fair. I just think he’s really elegant with the way he plays. You see the stuff he does on the pitch and he usually excites the fans just whenever he gets the ball really. So I think for that reason I’d probably say him.”
Jota has proven to be a revelation since he arrived on loan from Benfica. The winger had struggled somewhat during his loan spell at Real Valladolid last season so not much was expected of him when he arrived at Parkhead.
However, he has lit up the Scottish Premiership this campaign, having scored seven goals and provided five assists in his 17 league appearances so far.
While supporters would be ecstatic if Jota opts to stay with Celtic on a permanent basis, there is a feeling that he may want to return to Portugal in the summer. If manager Ange Postecoglou and the club can convince him to remain in Scotland, though, it would be a massive coup.
