Cameron Carter-Vickers should not be contemplating leaving Celtic this summer, according to Richard Foster.

The former Aberdeen and Rangers fullback was reacting to reports that Wolves, Leicester and Burnley are interested in the American international, when he questioned the reasons why the defender would be interested in playing for those clubs:

“I don’t get that. Those teams – Leicester, Burnley and Wolves – I personally don’t get why he’d leave Celtic to go and play at those clubs. Stay at Celtic, win championships, play in the Champions League. I just think go and play in the Champions League and do well, and you’ll get a better move than a Wolves or Burnley.”

Foster certainly has a point. Out of the three, Wolves are the only ones likely to be playing in Europe next season, and it certainly won’t be in the Champions League.

The Hoops, on the other hand, will be in the group stages if they win the title and, while they can’t compete in terms of wages, they can in terms of winning trophies.

An option to buy Carter-Vickers from Tottenham (for a fee that could rise to £10m) is on the table, but a final decision on the move will be the player’s. It has been suggested that those around the 24-year-old are pushing him to stay in Scotland so, hopefully, he’ll heed their advice.
