Celtic have failed in their attempts to end Ryan Christie’s quarantine early, with the Scottish government confirming that the midfielder will have to self-isolate for the full 14 days.
The Hoops have questioned why Arsenal left-back Kieran Tierney was allowed out of quarantine, despite both players going into self-isolation on the same day following the positive COVID-19 test for Scotland teammate Stuart Armstrong.
However, a spokesman for the Scottish government stated there are no exceptions to their national guidance when a person comes into close contact with someone who has had the virus:
“Our national guidance in Scotland is clear – if you are identified as a close contact of someone who has tested positive for coronavirus (Covid-19), you will be asked to self-isolate immediately for 14 days.”
It remains to be seen why Tierney has apparently been given permission to end his self-isolation early but reports in England do suggest that evidence was shared with the Scottish government which proved he didn’t come within 2.8 metres of Armstrong.
The two players were believed to have played video games together, but they were playing on different consoles.
